MIT ODER OHNE
March 10, 2012 – April 21, 2012
The motifs and elements Anne Neukamp uses in her work derive from our everyday decor, the
image archive of the consumer society: cartoon characters and mascots, heraldic details, letters
from the newspaper, advertising pictograms.
She allows these functional signs and images, designed for efficiency, to become fragments
beneath layers of painting or even to disappear entirely; she puts them together in new and
different ways, stripping them of their univalent impact.
In the exhibition mit oder ohne, Neukamp presents a group of new large-format works that
move within a logic of shifting and undermining and stimulate the most diverse interpretations.
At the same time, through their occasionally cheeky imagery, they appear to flirt with the
expectations of the market.
Born in Düsseldorf in 1976, Anne Neukamp lives and works in Berlin. Her work was exhibited
last year at the Prague Biennale as well as in the group show Based in Berlin at Kunstwerke.
She also had solo exhibitions last year at Open Space at Art Cologne and at Galerie chez
Valentin in Paris. In September of this year she will have a solo show at the Rudolf-Scharpf-
Galerie of the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen, for which an accompanying catalogue is
planned.
