A PLACE BY TWO

The exhibition A Place by Two deals with the topic of architectural space in an experimental attempt to create and give meaning to a (shared) living space. The works in the exhibition include numerous sketches, photographs, and models.
Tobias Putrih, based in New York and Ljubljana, has exhibited his work to great acclaim in both Europe and America. In 2002, he took part in Manifesta 4 in Frankfurt; in 2005, he appeared in the group show Greater New York at PS1 in New York; and this year, his project MUDAM’s Studio (a collaboration with Sancho Silva) was presented at the newly established Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean (MUDAM) in Luxembourg. He has had solo shows in 2003 at the Mala Galerija (of the Moderna Galerija) in Ljubljana, and in 2003 and 2005 at the Max Protetch Gallery in New York.
Tobias Putrih’s works occupy a liminal territory within concepts of visual models from science and art (cinema, architecture, design), while at the same time exposing the fanciful aspect of their origin in the pseudo-sciences of the nineteenth century. His most recent works have been increasingly connected with the conceptual schemes of the modernist period, ideas that display their belief in social models that, while often utopian, are no less relevant for us today.
